English Lit
On Friday, we finished discussing "Whoso List to Hunt" and looked briefly at the write up on p.149
on the poet. Then, we read the two poems on page 162 and had a debate
about the character with whom we sympathized the most. For homework, students are to read 6
Shakespearean sonnets on pp. 166-169 and do a Q and Q on each for
Tuesday.
I will assign some readings from the textbook next week, and I'll post them to this blog.
The next Independent Novel Assignment due dates are as follows:

Monday, students reading Into the Wild and Fifth
Business with do fishbowls on their novels. The class will
discuss the Shakespearean sonnets on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday
and Friday of next week, we'll watch the movie Elizabeth with
Cate Blanchet.
I will assign some readings from the textbook next week, and I'll post them to this blog.

On Monday and Tuesday, we'll review for the short story unit test on Wednesday. On Thursday, you will get a sight story you've never seen before, and I'll ask you questions on it. On Friday, you will present your short story projects.
This weekend, review your short story terms from the handout I gave you. Also, fill in your review sheets for "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl, "The Inheritor" by Frank Roberts, and "The Doll's House" by Katherine Mansfield. On Monday, you'll complete sheets for "The Telltale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, and "The Metaphor" by Budge Wilson.

Tonight, read pages 128 to the top of 138 in the textbook. Write your top 10 points to remember from this section.

In preparation for the in-class composition on Thursday, choose a character (Charlotte, Charlotte's mother, or Miss Hancock) about whom to write. Then, choose three character traits from the brainstormed lists we completed in class and find a supporting quote (with page number) from the textbook. You will need your three traits and three quotes for the planning sheet I'll give you tomorrow.

English Lit
On Friday, we answered 3 questions on "Bonny Barbara Allan" (they're on my blog from Thursday). Find the answers on page 105 on the blurb on English and Scottish ballads. We also listened to Dolly Parton's and Joan Baez's versions of the song.
Then, we read the Medieval romance, "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". Be sure to read page 89. Then, do a question and quote on the romance for Monday.
I also gave a run down of what will be on the test on Tuesday:
- 5 vocab words
- 5 quotes from "The Prologue"
- 10 multiple choice questions (Chaucer, Bonny Barbara, Gawain)
- 4 short answer questions (5 marks each).
- 1 longer answer (10 marks)
Also go over the most important aspects of Beowulf as one question will ask you about it in relation to the other works.
