Today, we had a comma quiz and looked at some more capitalization rules.  We also talked a little bit about the myth of El Dorado. Then, we read "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service and answered some questions.  Students who were at the Children's Festival can collect all these handouts and do the quiz on Monday.

Today, we did superhero skits and students will turn their hero and villain characters into 1-2 page stories for next Friday.  Also, because I overlooked putting last night's question concerning Beowulf on this site, here it is:

"Beowulf is the source of information about early manners, customs, and traditions.  
       a)  Find two examples of each (manners, customs, and traditions) in the story
       b)  What different manners, customs, or traditions do we have today?

Our next lit circle is on Thursday, April 17th.  Make sure you know what your role is, and keep me informed if you are having any difficulty with this at all.

Finish the questions on "To an Athlete Dying Young" and also give a detailed answer as to whether or not you agree with the message of the poem.

Your one-page paragraph responses to one of the prompts from yesterday will be due on Monday.  They all pertain to Chapters 1-5 of the class novel and are as follows:

1. Discuss the three most salient reasons for the men's bitterness
2. Explain how trench warfare has affected the young men's attitudes towards their own lives.
3. Personal dignity and humanity are difficult to maintain while fighting at the front.  Explain how the men try to maintain these two things.
