Tomorrow, we will have a vocabulary quiz. In addition, we will write our narrative compositions on Monday. Your assigned topic is as follows:

Write a narrative essay (300-500 words) about one scene from your life which takes place over the course of a few minutes or a few hours. It can be either thrilling or frightening or painful or joyful. Try to employ as many narrative techniques as possible (see handout for a list of these techniques). You must definitely include images appealing to at least three different senses and at least one figurative device.

Tomorrow's short story test will consist of...

True/false questions, matching terms to definitions, fill in the blanks, short answers, five quotations, and one paragraph question (you will be given four choices , of which you will select one). Know the terms we covered in class, and be familiar with the information we reviewed on the large white sheets.

Please continue with "Life of Pi"; our next lit circle is on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we'll be reviewing the short stories we've been studying. Thursday, you will receive a story that you have never seen before. You will be asked to answer a few multiple choice questions on it and write a multi paragraph composition (okay, an essay)! On Friday, we will have our short story final (know terms and aspects of our class stories such as character, conflict, symbolism, irony, point of view, escape/interpretive elements, plot, and theme-whew).

My apologies for posting this on Sunday. This entry was in draft mode all weekend, although I wrote it on Friday before I left school. Thanks to Lisa for informing me of this.

For homework this weekend, please complete the sentence combining exercise entitled "Street Scene".

Our first literature circle is scheduled for next Tuesday, so please keep working on that.

Also, tomorrow, there will be a short quiz on short story terms (just review the yellow sheets entitled "Purpose and the Short Story", "Plot and the Short Story" and "Character and the Short Story".

On Friday, we'll have a vocabulary quiz and a brief comma quiz.
