The final literature circle has been postponed until Tuesday.  Begin working on your poetry project.

English 10

Read Chapters 22 and 23 this weekend.  Also, make sure that your questions are complete up to Chapter 21.  You do not have to do the questions for Chapter 16.

English 8

This weekend, answer the questions for Chapters 9 and 10.  The answers for Chapters 11 and 12 will be due on Tuesday.  Also, complete the worksheet on making inferences that I handed out on Friday.  The worksheet will also be due on Monday.

Tonight, read Chapter 16 of the novel.  Your reflections on Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes is now considered late.
I've posted the Chapter 16 MP3 file and skipped Chapter 15 as I read that one in class today.

English 8

Students handed in their Facebook projects today.  Study for the spelling test on Friday and read Chapter 8 of The Outsiders tonight for homework.

Our next lit circle is on Thursday, April 17th.  Make sure you know what your role is, and keep me informed if you are having any difficulty with this at all.

Finish the questions on "To an Athlete Dying Young" and also give a detailed answer as to whether or not you agree with the message of the poem.

Your one-page paragraph responses to one of the prompts from yesterday will be due on Monday.  They all pertain to Chapters 1-5 of the class novel and are as follows:

  1. Discuss the three most salient reasons for the men's bitterness
  2. Explain how trench warfare has affected the young men's attitudes towards their own lives.
  3. Personal dignity and humanity are difficult to maintain while fighting at the front.  Explain how the men try to maintain these two things.


English 10

Study your vocabulary words for the coming test (April 16th), finish reading up to the start of Chapter 10, and write a response to the video we saw today in class.  The paragraph response should include 3 to 5 pieces of information that you found memorable, shocking, or significant.  You can watch the 50 minute video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQAmdZvKf6M#aid=P8NtIoMA9NQ
The response is due on Monday.  Also, cut off for marks is next Thursday, so make sure that you do not have any outstanding assignments for me.

When you are downloading the MP3 files, do not use Internet Explorer.  Use Chrome or Firefox instead. Alternatively, you can save them to your Dropbox account if you have one.

Your short story unit test is on Friday.  Make sure you are reviewing your terms and the short story review sheets.

The MP3 files of the class novel are on the sidebar under "PAGES".  You will have to download them to play them.

Make sure that you have read chapters 2, 3, and 4 for Monday.  Also, answer the questions on the greed study guide for those chapters by Monday.
