English 10

Tomorrow, we'll go over the answers to Act II (your yellow sheets, so be sure to have them completed). Period 2, make sure you answer questions #1-5 on Sonnet 130 (pink handout).
Students were also given 10 new vocabulary words from Act III today, and they are as follows:

1. ascend (v): to move upwards; to rise
2. beguile (v): to enchant or charm, often with the intent of misleading someone
3. calamity (n): a serious event causing misfortune
4. asunder (adv): into pieces (as in tear asunder = tear into pieces)
5. jocund (adj): cheerful; merry (think joyful or joke)
6. prostrate (v): to bow or kneel down to show humility or adoration
7. abhor (v): to hate or shun
8. effeminate (adj): unmanly; having the characteristics of a weak woman
9. adversity (n): a state of hardship or misfortune
10. gallant (adj): heroic, brave, chivalrous
