English 12

Tomorrow, I will be collecting your journal entries from the past month.  They are:
1.  Write about a time you misjudged someone based upon appearances, or when someone misjudged you.
2.  Write down your first impressions of the short story "Miss Brill".  What did you find thought-provoking, strange or confusing about it?
3.   Does evil exist?  Explain why you think it does or does not.  If you believe it does exist, explain what makes some people evil.
4.  What was your reaction to the story "The Lottery"?  What did you find thought-provoking, strange or confusing about it?
5.  Explain what similarities there are between Philip Zimbardo's TEDTalk on the Lucifer Effect and Shirley Jackson's story "The Lottery".  The handout that I gave you in class should be a help in remembering Zimbardo's main points.

Also, remember to study for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow. Your vocabulary words (from "The Lottery") for the quiz are profuse, a scold (the noun), interminable, boisterous, recital, petulantly, reprimand, perfunctory, jovial, civic, craned, and lapse.
