Tonight, read both sides of the yellow handout "Plot and the Short Story" and "Character and the Short Story". Make sure that you have definitions for the terms allusion, parable and epiphany as they are words you will need to know for the final.
Tomorrow you will be answering the question: Given that Winnie is the protagonist and the conflict is internal (character versus self), explain how the resolution of the conflict relates to why Budge Wilson wrote this story.
For those of you who will be absent tomorrow, we will look at the story of the prodigal son and then look at how familiarity with this story informs our understanding of the short story "The Charmer". We will also look at the difference between direct and indirect characterization.
